I haven't made a post like this (or any) for quite a long time. I've been rejected for internship positions (though, I did get the interviews), and now, I have nothing but job applications to fill out for the summer. Chances of me getting a call back before the summer are slim, so I may have this summer free.
My project car budget has risen, through savings, and now I have nearly 1600 dollars. I still want a 240sx, but the 318ti is a close favorite. Yes, I like this odd hatchback. I want to make a DD/Drift car/Track Day/Autocross car (I know what I'm asking here). I know that usually people hold separate cars for occasions like that, but this is something that will be driven hard, and beaten. Something that I'm going to paint in my garage with spray cans. Don't worry, I have a separate DD.
I really wish people around here didn't thing their cars cost so much. Seriously, 240sx shells still go for like 2000 dolololars because "drift car status"
I just want something that runs, and something manual.
Maybe I should just Miata it. But I want a hard top.

I Picked one of these up last year and it's been an absolute riot. It's a little different, but it's got the right layout, insane aftermarket support and your pick of all kinds of swaps... I've got a 2.8 in mine, amongst some other mods. Picked it up a little damaged for next to nothing and daily drive it in the summer.
Give the ti some much needed love.

I DD and autocross a ti, look for a sport model if you can. They have a bit better suspension than the other models. Also if you pick one up be prepared to replace the entire cooling system

He shouldn't just be prepared to replace it, he should replace it immediately on purchase. The water pump tends to grenade once it gets old. By the time the idiot light turns on, it's usually too late.

Yupp, once the temp needle goes past just off center it's time to replace it. Either that or have more fun with a head gasket job

I blew my pump on the track... I got really lucky I (a) noticed the light immediately and (b) was literally right by the pits. Any other circumstances I probably would have blown the engine.
